This means the drive-in either doesn’t have the item you selected in stock or there is a technical issue. Try removing items or customizations from your order to see if it works.
Make sure you are using the latest version of the Sonic app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. When prompted, allow the Sonic app to access your device location to find Sonic Drive-Ins near you that support Order Ahead.
The menu in the app is a limited menu containing only items that can be ordered at any SONIC Drive-In location across the country that supports Order Ahead.
Prices of menu items vary by drive-in location. We’re presently working on a way to provide pricing before you add an item to your cart.
Printed coupons can’t be redeemed in the app. You will need to place your order at the drive-in to use the coupon.
You can add sauces to your product when customizing, or add packets of condiments at the bottom of each product page. You can also add condiments separate from a product from your cart. Or press the Red Button when you arrive to pick up your order and a Carhop will bring condiments with your order.
Order Ahead is now available at Sonic Drive-Ins around the country! With the Sonic app, you can browse the menu, customize your order, and add items to your bag. You can then pay for your order using a credit card or a Sonic gift card, then select a pick up time. When you arrive at the store to pick up your order, pull into a stall and use the app to check in. Your order will be delivered soon!
Yes, you can cancel your order up until 5 minutes before your selected pick up time. In the app, tap on the red button with the bag icon and then tap on View Order. That will open your order details page. Scroll to the bottom and find the Cancel Order button.
With 1.3 million drink combinations and many customizable food choices, we may not have the exact item that you’d like to create shown on the app. Some items will need to be ordered at the drive-in without the app until we make that item or option available. We’ve built in some popular ways to customize and will add more options regularly.
To order Extra Mustard, hold down the Mustard icon. Tapping once will add or remove Mustard, depending on if it’s already on the product you have selected. Holding down the Mustard icon will open up a menu that lets you order Easy Mustard or Extra Mustard. This works the same on many items that allow Easy or Extra modifications. Easy and Extra are not available on all items, but we are working towards adding those in future updates. Selecting Extra may cost more for some items.
No. Once we send the order to the kitchen, the food has been made. You can no longer cancel the order or receive a refund.
Order Ahead is now available at almost all Sonic Drive-In locations around the country. If it’s not there yet, it should be at your local drive-in soon!
Yes, the app needs access to your location to enable Order Ahead. If you don’t want to provide location access, you can always call a drive-in to place an order without using the app. Drive-in phone numbers can be found in the Find A Location section of the app.
To order Easy Ice, hold down the Ice icon. Tapping once will remove ice. Holding down the Ice icon will open up a menu that lets you order Easy Ice or Extra Ice. Yes. Just tell them to push the red button when they arrive at the specified time and give the Carhop your name. The Carhop will be able to look up your order.
Now that you can use a credit card to pay for your Order Ahead orders, you may have a small balance left on your gift card. You cannot use multiple payment methods for Order Ahead orders today. But you can use up the remaining balance on your gift card by using Sonic Pay to pay for an order at the store. Place your order at the store the old-fashioned way, and check in using the Pay tab in the app. Once you’re checked in, scroll down to Payment Method and uncheck the green Reload checkbox. This will let you pay the remaining balance of your card toward your order, but not require you to reload your gift card. You can then pay for the rest of your order total at the store by swiping a credit card or using cash.
Anything you can order in the app should be available at every drive-in. However, sometimes drive-ins remove or adjust items. When this error occurs, we will work with the drive-in to resolve it.
We know SONIC guests love to order this type of custom drink combo. We are working on options to allow this type of customization. For now, try using flavor add-ins or fruit add-ins to make your drink your own.
Yes. Discounts applied during promotional time periods are applied at the time you place and pay for the order, not at your selected pick up time.

You now can! If you already have a credit card on your account from loading your gift card, you can use that card. Or you can add a new credit card to your account. We’re also working on letting you pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay soon!

No. Text offers are not available in Order Ahead orders.
Ask the gifter to remove the credit card on file, add it back, and send it again.

Yes. You can select a different card using the Apple Pay modal that appears when you get to the payment step.
If you have multiple cards in your Apple Pay wallet, you can tap on your card to switch to another card.
We do not store your default card so if you select a different card using Apple Pay, you will need to select that card every time or change that card to your default card in your Wallet & Apple Pay settings.
No. Apple Pay in the Sonic app is only available for placing Order Ahead orders today and does not use the physical payment method of Apple Pay that allows you to tap your phone or watch to pay.

SONIC’S history can be traced back to 1953 and a small root beer stand called Top Hat in Shawnee, Oklahoma. In 1959, after successfully operating a handful of Top Hat locations, Troy Smith and partner Charles Pappe christened the existing locations SONIC, a good match for their slogan, “Service at the Speed of Sound.”
Our minimum hours of operation are 6 a.m to 10 p.m. Most SONIC locations are owned by independent franchisees, and we feel they are best able to set the appropriate hours for their local SONIC. Please check with your local SONIC for its hours.
With locations in 46 states we do utilize national TV advertising. This means markets across the country see our advertisements; even those where we have not yet arrived. We know that the footage of our delicious food may make you hungry, please know, it's not our intent to tease you. With national advertising it's just not possible to limit the advertising to markets with actual locations.
Sonic Corp. and the franchisees that operate SONIC drive-ins are proud members of our community. Donations and/or other means of support are given at the discretion of the independent franchisee. Nationally, SONIC is focused on education and the arts within our home state of Oklahoma. While there are many worthy charitable organizations, we believe we are most effective when we focus our national support on limited causes, in this case arts and education in Oklahoma. While SONIC is a restaurant company, and as such, does not raise, handle, own, transport or process animals we believe that handling animals in a manner that is humane is an important responsibility and quite simply, the right thing to do. The foundation of SONIC’s animal welfare program is based on a comprehensive third-party audit system for beef, poultry, and pork processing plants. These systems are based on credible scientific animal behavior research and consist of specific technical standards for animal treatment including a detailed set of guidelines for measuring compliance. To guide us, we work closely with experts and industry groups such as the American Meat Institute, the National Chicken Council and the National Pork Board. We work with our suppliers and others in our industry in an effort to raise the bar on animal welfare standards. One reason why we’re a member of the National Council of Chain Restaurants (NCCR) is to work with our industry and suppliers in our combined commitment to animal welfare.
SONIC is an avid supporter of education and the arts. Our specific focus is on supporting educational opportunities in the state of Oklahoma where SONIC is headquartered. In addition, our award winning Limeades for Learning® program has impacted thousands of students across the nation by providing needed supplies and tools needed by teachers to further student education. We do not provide support to individuals, only to non-profit groups aligned with education and/or the arts.
